EzSANFiler XD Features

EzSANFiler XD Series is the fusion of best of breed EzSAN XL Series and EzNAS XN Series functionality in an integrated all in one system that allows you to centralize and consolidate your storage in one platform and use the same storage pool to provide block level storage to databases, email servers,… as well as file sharing services within the same platform. It eliminates multiple platform requirements, enables a more efficient use of storage space, eases the management and administrative burdens, and thus leads to a lower total cost of ownership (TCO).

EzSANFiler XD Series not only supports iSCSI SAN natively, it is also capable of supporting Fibre Channel SAN functionality and a variety of Network File Services such as Microsoft CIFS (SMB), NFS (Linux, Unix, MacOSX), AppleTalk, FTP and SecureFTP in a single appliance.

XD series is one truly unified storage appliance that brings together cutting edge SAS, SATA, SAN, NAS, and Backup technologies in one single system offering unprecedented ease of management and administration. Administrators can use the intuitive XD Series web based interface to create a Fibre Channel SAN volume for high-speed video editing, and use the same interface to allocate an iSCSI volume for their Exchange servers or SQL Database. Same simple GUI interface can then be used to allocate a NAS volume, create a share folder and make it available to Windows or Linux users.

Network Teaming and Fault Tolerance

This assures greater reliability by providing a secondary network interface, which automatically takes over if the primary network interface fails.

Multiple Snapshots with Scheduling

An immediate ‘Point in Time’ image of a Logical Volume can be created while the application access is uninterrupted. Up to 100 scheduled or on demand Snapshots can be created. This feature allows for an easy recovery from accidental deletion or modification of data or a malicious virus or worm attack.

High Availability through Synchronous Mirroring

Volumes can be mirrored in real time to a secondary XD Series appliance allowing fail over in case the primary fails. Two identical systems can be cross mirrored to create a highly available redundant solution.

Disaster Recovery through Remote Replication Services

Volumes can be asynchronously replicated to a secondary XD Series appliance in a remote site providing a secondary backup in case of failure at the primary site. Two identical systems can be cross replicated to create a highly available redundant solution.


NAS advanced feature summary

File and folder Cross Synchronization

Celeros XD Series can synchronize files and directories from one SANFiler to another. The data transfer is block- based in order to minimize network traffic. Synchronization can be used for disaster recovery or Disk-to-Disk backup purposes. The XD Series can synchronize data in both directions, the SANFiler can be the source and destination of files at the same time, allowing to cross-backup data on several units


Snapshot is an immediate point-in-time image of the logical volume (LV). The snapshot image can be used for both consistent and temporary backup, while users still have uninterrupted and complete access to the LV. Also, if a user accidentally deletes or incorrectly modifies a file, that file can be recovered from a previous snapshot image.

Multiple Snapshot with the scheduling function

Celeros XD Series supports “Multiple Snapshot with Scheduling” to create snapshots at predefined points in time (e.g. automatically every hour).

Backup-Agents (Veritas, EMC Dantz, CA BrightStor)

Celeros XD Series backup agents help administrators to back up NAS files and folders with backup software from Veritas, Dantz, CA BrightStor ARCserve. Using the backup agents, you can administer complete data protection for all data stored on the NAS. This improves data transfer and provides network security, task monitoring, real-time directory browsing, and cross-platform backup support. Other backup software can backup and restore over supported file protocols.

Local Backup on Dynamic Units

A hard drive in the system can be defined as a Dynamic Unit. NAS Files and folders can backed up on such a Unit; Dynamic Units can be removed and stored offsite. The Dynamic Unit can be removed without shutting down the XD system and acts like a normal tape drive.

Antivirus (server’s shares scanning)

Celeros XD Series has an integrated Antivirus software tool to scan shares for viruses at predefined points in time. The Virus Definition Database can be updated automatically and on regular basis to protect files and folder stored on the SANFiler.

Antivirus (online scanning for protocol)

Celeros XD Series supports Online Scanning of all files transferred via the NAS as well as FTP protocols.

Windows Active Directory / Primary Domain Controller

Celeros XD Series supports Windows Active Directory (ADS), PDC, LDAP and ADS & NIS User/Group ID Synchronization to leverage information about users, groups, systems and other resources stored in the Active Directory. The support of Access Control List (ACL) ensures that access rights of users are automatically taken over from the Domain.

External LDAP

Celeros XD Series supports external LDAP servers to enable users to configure and administer multiple XD Series   from one single point (either a Celeros XD Series with a LDAP database or any other LDAP server).

Support for Network Information Service (NIS)

The NIS directory service protocol enables the distribution of system configuration data such as user and host names between computers on a computer network. Celeros XD Series supports NIS for easier and consistent access of information stored on any other Celeros XD Series using NIS.

File System With Journaling Support

The support for journaling makes the file system more reliable and allows easier, faster recovery from unexpected shutdowns.

User and Group Quota Control

Users with large disk requirements can be constrained either by assigning them a dedicated share or by restricting their individual usage through individual user quotas or to assign a quota on a group to which the user belongs.

Supported Network Clients

Celeros XD Series supports the file based protocols CIFS, NFS, FTP, Secure FTP and Apple Talk enabling Windows, Linux, Unix and Mac clients to share data on the same NAS.
